About Elsy
At age 19 I traveled from my home country of Honduras 1,600 miles to United States of America to fulfill my dreams. But, before traveling to United States of America, I lived in Guatemala for a year exploring new opportunities and I learned about Guatemalan culture, society, and food.
After I arrived in the United States, I recognized the importance of learning English. I attended English classes at a local Community High School in Boca Raton, Florida.
After learning English as a second language, I decided to pursue a double major in International Business & Language with a Minor in Economics at the University of Tulsa, OK. In the fall of 2006, I made an important decision - to be away from my husband and two children for five months traveling 5,000 miles from Tulsa to study abroad in Barcelona, Spain. The program allowed me to take excursions around Spain, including San Sebastian, Spain’s Basque country, and to the Pyrenees Mountains.
In 2007 I opened a web development business with my husband and spent several years using my Spanish language skills to develop content for digital agency websites. After the economy went down in 2010 we sold our business and went back to corporate America jobs.
In 2015 I quit my job to help others, experience extraordinary things, and meet people from all over the world as a volunteer for the Israel Defense Army. I did this for six weeks voluntarily. In addition, I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity to build houses for low-income families, and provided Spanish Support for NAMI for families with mental health issues.
In 2018, a trek vacation in Nepal brought me to Mount Everest base camp with my husband on my birthday! The following year we hiked to Mt. Kilimanjaro, but unfortunately, we did not make it to the top of the mountain.
I returned to the work force full time at various Finance positions with different firms that resulted in a little of bit of stress and thus I began to work on myself as an individual. Both physically and mentally.
Up until the end of April of 2022, I had been balancing unhappy periods in my life. This limitation became more apparent during two years of COVID lockdown. I felt trapped working from home, in front of a computer, and four walls surrounding me for nine hours every day. It was through this challenge that I realized that true happiness, for me, would not be found working from home.
My decision to leave my job came after working for corporate America for over 25 years, but I still didn’t know what I wanted to “be.” All that was on my mind was getting a backpack and traveling around the world to continue learning about different cultures and their languages.
After quitting my job in April 2022 I took a solo trip to Mexico for three weeks. I visited the following cities: Tehuacan, Oaxaca, Orizaba, Veracruz, Catemaco and Los Tuxlas. I traveled by local buses and visited museums and local markets. This trip gave me an opportunity to discover myself and meet marvelous people along way.
Fast forward to present day and I’ve traveled to over 15 countries with my family. I stopped living a life bound by limitations and decided to follow my heart and live a life without borders. I have met hundreds of beautiful souls throughout my travels and knocked some big adventures off my “bucket list”.
I share my life as a fully, self-expressed individual despite what we have been told by society. The idea of “success” is to go to college, get a job, get married, have kids, and live happily ever after. Going to college, getting a corporate job, and being married and having children does not mean that you are done.
I did those things successfully!
There are simply more opportunities in life if you have the right partner to support you and believe what is within your heart.
I want to share my passion for travel, my love of experiencing new cultures, and continue to work on myself. You are never too old or too busy to follow up your dreams.
